Urinary tract infections (UTIs), they’re horrible.
Needing to pee a lot, but only a little bit coming out? Burning feeling when you pee? Strange smelling, cloudy or dark pee? Are you feeling tired, chilly, or have an achy lower back? You could have a UTI.
Many people suffer from them from time to time. If you’ve recently had a catheter, following surgery or labour, then you are more likely to get one.
An infection in any part of the urinary system. The different symptoms show where your UTI might be, and help us find a homeopathic remedy to support you.
Drinking lots of water can really help here. So keep your fluids up.
Cranberry juice is useful – it changes the acidity of your urine. Make sure you go for a good quality cranberry juice without bags of sugar.
My top 5 homeopathic remedies for UTIs –
Cantharis
A strong urge to urinate. There may be an agonising, cutting pain before, during and after urinating, even if only a little passes. A scalding feeling when passing any urine, even a drop. The bladder never feels empty.
Nux Vomica
Constant need to urinate, only passing small amounts each time, with a feeling of fullness in the bladder. Burning or cramping pain in the bladder area. Itchy feeling around the urethra. You may feel irritable and chilly.
Sarsparilla
Frequent need to urinate. Burning at the end of urination. Urine passes easiest when standing up. Sediment or blood may be seen in the urine. It may be tricky to start urinating, despite there being an urge.
Staphysagria
Symptoms following lots of sex – known as ‘honeymoon cystitis’. Also useful when the symptoms follow labour, a pelvic exam or surgery. Pain on and after urinating.
Berberis Vulgaris
Twinges of cutting pain, or a burning feeling around the opening of the urethra. The burning can be at any time, without any urination. The bladder never feels empty. Symptoms worse from walking.
